Buenos Aires Dance Movement Therapy Training Program started
in 1996.
It is a non academic, 700 hour training model, developed to learn DMT
practice, theory and technique, through the integration of personal
experience, processing and revisiting psychotherapy approaches.
Being the first Spanish speaking structured program in the world,
Brecha was developed as a result of psychotherapists’ and local
dancers’ interest in the integration of the body mind through
movement and dance experiences linked to verbal communication.
Advanced Dance therapists Registered by American Dance Therapy
Association, with members such as Marcia Leventhal, Fran Levy,
Sharon Chaiklin, Joan Chodorow, William Freeman, Dianne Dulicai
and many well-known other professionals, came down and generously
shared with us their knowledge and expertise. Their support,
orientation and supervision gave us the spirit and core of Dance
Movement Therapy. Exploring our own movements and dances
became our engine. We were lead by our need of learning how to
contact patients through movement reaching them where they were,
meeting their real self, and getting where words don’t. Through
movement and dance we learn to contact emotions, intensities and
shapes allowing expression, rejoining verbal communication.
Dance Movement Therapists have always been aware of the power of
movement as a means of non verbal communication, as a way of
exchanging conscious and unconscious information, which essentially
involves emotional tones and embodied cognition. That is to say:
through movement sensing we get the sense of movement.
